Following a fire-balloon related incident in Changsha over the holidays, the local authorities have taken the unusual step of promoting the dangers of these balloons and have warned people not to buy them as they can explode violently and cause serious degree burns. The most likely victims would be those of the children holding the balloons and anyone nearby.

In one of the recent demonstrations (below), the fireball stretched out the width of one person and a half. Clearly, if this were to happen around a family the consequences could be severe. It is advised to avoid purchasing these balloons, as most are filled with hydrogen gas (vendors usually use helium), even though this practice has now been banned.
